Reunion Re-Cap Report: New Studio Stuff

The first thing that gave me chills was the announcement about the latest enhancement to our online Heritage Studio...improved photo management! Now this is a HUGE help for those who have many, many gigabytes worth of photos to store. (Gotta love unlimited storage for Premier accounts - photos that won't ever be deleted (unless I choose to)!

Our new PHOTO MANAGEMENT features include 3 big things:
1) Shows file names now...if you don't rename your JPGs, this won't matter to you but if you've already classified those baby pics as 6 months, 8 months, etc., you'll be thrilled! Plus, you can click to name them right in the Editor window so if you know which pic has eyes open, you can name it "best" or something and it'll show that way for quicker, easier reference later. Plus, all filenames are shown in alphabetical order so it's a snap to find the shots you want, even in a big photo album.

2) Foldering...create sub-folders for Family, Friends, Holidays and such to better classify your albums & pictures - easily add photos into additional groups or categories. Drag in specific images to make a whole folder of a certain event or person to make it easy to find them fast when you want.

3) Sharing albums...now you can email anyone (even people without HM accounts) your uploaded photo albums so they can see your latest pics. Put in their address and a personal note. It will go to them and let them view them easily. After viewing the photos, they may choose to create their own HM account and they have the option of your photo album showing up automatically in their account - to use on their projects!  Amazing!!

PUBLISHING PERKS
Two new upgrades have been added as well. These special options are FREE for all Premier members and just $2.95 (total) for Basic members. Your choice at the time of checkout. Neat!
1) Matte Finish Covers: If you don't like the high gloss look of our laminated hardcovers, now you can choose a flatter matte look instead. It can still be wiped off too!
2) Black End Pages: This adds a classy flair to the front & back of your books if you prefer it over the standard white end pages. The vellum front sheet will stay!

ENJOY THE NEW WHITE WORKSPACE
This one may not be as obvious for an improvement, but the white work area around your pages will show up your text boxes and elements much better so they won't get lost when you drag them off to the edges for use later.

DESIGN DOUBLE-PAGE SPREAD LAYOUTS IN STUDIO
This is another huge enhancement that will make many designers very happy. Currently we can only view and design one side of a page at a time in the Editor, which makes it a bit challenging to be creative with full spreads and elements that cross the gutter. But with 2 of our newest just-released products, this design option will be offered. The developers are working to roll it out for all our storybooks in Studio soon!

In January's newsletter I set a personal goal to publish at least one important family project a month throughout 2009, and even listed my planned projects for the purpose of being accountable.  I'm VERY excited to show off my favorite project completed in January: a 7x5 "What I Love About You" storybook for my husband for Valentine's Day.  I started with a template from the Template Gallery, then altered each page to make it my own, and wah-lah, MAGIC! Click HERE to view it!  I gave this little book to him on Valentine's Day.  I feel that it expresses my love for him better than anything else...except for maybe a little alone time after he finishes reading it...Ahem (throat clearing)... :)   

I believe that everyone has a love story to share.  I like this post on the HM blog, called "A Love Like That" . 

Half-Price Deal

With 2009 in full swing, it's just about time to get ready for Spring Cleaning!  So, pull out those old boxes of photos and make the decision now to DO something with them.  I will do the hard part FOR YOU.  With my scanning service, all YOU have to do is go through your photos and select the ones that mean the most to your family.  I can pick them up, scan them with my high-output scanner (30 photos per minute! vs 1-2 photos per minute on a flat-bed scanner) and drop them back off to you.  It cannot be any simpler!  In fact, the first person to set up a February Scanning Appointment BY Monday, February 23rd, will get to choose a Heritage Makers project credit for HALF-OFF!!! (scan order of over 500 photos).  Email me now at diana@createheritageonline.com.  Click HERE for more info on my scanning service.

1.  To protect and preserve them: How are you protecting your photos in case of fire, flood, or other disaster?  It's easy to disregard this question, but you need to be prepared NOW.  When your photos are digitized:

   a) You can save them to CDs or memory sticks and give copies to relatives.j

   b) You can upload them to your secure ONLINE Heritage Makers account where photos are never deleted, except by you, and can be accessed at ANY computer with internet.

2. To remember the memories and share them:  Do you ever think about the thousands of memories attached to your photos?  If cherished pictures are stored in boxes throughout your home, how are the invaluable stories of your family going to be passed on?  It has to be done by YOU.  So don't wait!  I can help you from start to finish, and make it FUN along the way.

January Heritage Happenings

~I will also be more consistent with announcements to let you know what's going on and to serve you better.  

 For ME--

~I will personally publish at least one family project each month*: 

JAN - 2008 Fairhurst Family Yearbook (our important family events from this past year)

FEB - "Why I Love You" Storybook for my hubby (this is long overdue and MUCH deserved)

MAR - "From Blessing to Baptism" Storybook of my 8 year old son's life thus far 

APR -  Life Story of my husband's Grandma Curtis (I'll interview her using the HM "Life Story" StoryMap found on the website and will scan her old photos/memorabilia for this storybook)

MAY - 60th Birthday Tribute for my Father (I'm emailing his family & friends for stories and thoughts of him--shh, it's a surprise)

JUN - My 10-Year Wedding Anniversary Storybook (it'll be neat to recount this significant event from both our points of view, to show where we've been and where we're going...together)

JUL - '08-'09 School Yearbooks for my Sons (to show what they've learned and accomplished, I will scan the important paperwork/artwork that I've been collecting, then I'll throw most of the originals away)

AUG - My husband's Mission for our church ('91-'93) Storybook

SEP - I just might take a break...we'll see!

OCT - Begin creating Christmas Gifts for my family and friends: decks of cards, calendars, posters, books, etc

NOV - Life Story of my Grandpa Alder (I'll interview him and scan his old photos/memorabilia)

DEC - Christmas Cards (direct-ship from Heritage Makers to family & friends BEFORE Christmas)  

*You may wonder HOW I am planning to do this--well, just that--I'm going to PLAN to work on my projects a set amount of time each week. My storybooks are worthy of my time and will be treasured by my family year after year.
